Below are descriptions and responsibilities of the jobs CPT Rashad-Ali held prior to his death:

TAC Officer

Serves as a Tactical (TAC) Officer with the responsibility to train, assess, and counsel enlisted soldiers to become military leaders in the officer ranks as directed by the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), the United States Infantry School and the National Guard Bureau. Assists in the development of individual leadership traits; teaches leadership principles; and expands the leadership dimensions of prospective candidates. Plans, coordinates, and provides thirteen blocks of instruction covering combined arms tactics, staff subjects, general subjects, communications, operations, combat service support, leadership, survival, and training management. Provides additional assistance to other TACs and candidates as required.

Facilities Manager

 Programs, develops, and issues instructions according to Army policies and programs, on facilities management, utilities conservation, on major and minor repairs and construction, and on facilities survey and use. Provides technical assistance and staff oversight on facility matters. Conducts detailed inspections to determine structural deficiencies, proper use, supervision of service contracts and compliance with public law, federal and state regulations. Prepares written reports, commander’s staffs, and responsible installations support offices. Interprets regulations, directives, and policies pertaining to facilities.

Commander, 104 th Maintenance Company

 Serves as the Company Commander of a maintenance company supporting several customer units. Overall responsible for the organizational maintenance and repair of a variety of tactical and automobile vehicles including sedans, station wagons, buses, all terrain vehicles, and semi-trailers. Plans, organizes, directs, monitors, controls, and coordinates all aspects of maintenance operations to include operational inspections; preventative maintenance operations; repairs and rebuilds to minor assemblies; the priority of repairs; soldier work schedules; and the receipt, storage, and preservation of repair parts. Ensures personnel provide instruction and technical advice and assistance to customers. Maintains accountability for millions of dollars worth of Modification Table of Organization and Equipment (MTOE). Responsible for the health, welfare, training, supervision, morale and safety of assigned soldiers. Performs the full range of supervisory functions.
