The Big Fall
I worked part-time at the Coliseum and at certain events I would take DoDo and his cousins to work with me for their entertainment. At one event they were at a wrestling matched. I can’t remember who was wrestling, anyway I was at the concession stand and my niece came running screaming and hollering and told me that DoDo had fallen over the railing and was lying on the floor. I knew that he could have been badly hurt because the floor was concrete and the railing was very high up. As I was running to see about my baby I could hear people saying all kinds of things, he has broken his neck, his back and the more I heard the faster I ran to him jumping over people and chairs. When I got to him the paramedics were there. DoDo said, “Ma you are in the way I can’t see wrestling (all of a sudden he got an interest to watch wrestling)”. I knew then that he was fine. But on the advice on the paramedics we took him to the hospital to be examined thoroughly. I was told that he would be fine but maybe a little sore. So, when we got home DoDo said, “he wanted to sleep downstairs on the sofa”. I told him if he needed anything to holler for me. So, he was watching TV and almost every ½ hour he would call for me to change the channel on the TV we didn’t have remote control then. So, finally he went to sleep and the next morning he wanted to watch cartoons on different channels so the Ma come here started all over again every ½ hour. After the cartoons went off he asked me if he could go outside and ride his 10-speed bike. I told him no because he was sore and he shouldn’t be ridding his bike. He said “ I am not sore and said look” and he started jumping up and down to show me that he was not sore. After having me running up and down the stairs to change the channel on the TV. I asked him why did he call me so many times to change the channel when he could have gotten up and did it for himself. He smiled and said, “That’s the way you always do me Ma”. What could I say? The boy had a valid point.
